The engraved message on this slab of marble says to this effect: 'Mahatma Gandhiji had addressed a meeting on the playground of Private High School on March 3, 1927. This slab commemorates his stay here in this room.' The text is signed by the president of Pen Education Society Shri M. D. Tilak on Oct. 2, 1969. This picture shows an old view of the school. The stage is set for a new building. Here you see a part of the existing building. Does the scaffolding in the picture suggest you something....centenary celebration??
No more classes today...run! The December sun of 2006 shines over what remains of the old building. Soon this portion will belong to history as the new construction advances fast. The old office has been replaced with new construction in the upper right corner of the picture. The laboratory is waiting for its turn to give way to a new building. Can you make our what you are looking at? It is your friendly notice-board on the wall of the laboratory. Take a last look at the rooms that have lost their roofs. Do they remind you of something? Perhaps one of these was your class-room. After a hard day's work, the peons linger at the steps to spend a few more minutes with the soon-to-be-history veranda. Can you see beyond the workers razing a wall? It is the first floor of the western wing where you might have spent a few years. On the left you see the laboratory, and on the right, stands the office building. Perhaps the setting sun is shining on it for the last time. In the forefront you can see the oldest part of the school building. The building behind this school is the girls' school. Some years later a part of the hill beyond was levelled to add more wings. All quiet on the western front. This must be a very familiar view. Find out which part of the shcool you are looking at in this picture. Does this road leading to this school match the picture of the road in your memory? Don't you think the old rough, muddy road strewn with stones was better and certainly more beautiful than this tatsteless, odourless and colourless ribbon of asphalt? The shadows are lengthening and the game of cricket is in full swing with just a bat and anything for a ball. This picture shows a part of construction finished in March 2006. Nearing completion!
